10 years ago saw the launch of of the mentoring scheme which matched LGBTQ+ students with employees from a range of organisations to explore the transition from university to work and further study. Under the heading Get Out Stay Out, the starting point for conversations was how mentors have negotiated coming out in the workplace. Meeting monthly from December to June, subsequent topics have included: finding LGBTQ+ inclusive employers, leadership, applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, juggling family, kids and work and a host of other areas. We;ve been going so long that we have mentees who are now mentors on the programme.

Thank you Jane Tope for asking me to start the scheme in the first place and for Careers Network and their brilliant staff to provide the management and administrative support to secure the scheme’s longevity.
