Two great days discussing a wide range of LGBT issues in higher education – a wealth of practical advice on how to best support our students and staff and some incisive and thought-provoking presentations from cutting-edge academics in this field.
Two splendid key notes from out senior university staff: Professor Cara Aitchison, President and Vice-Chancellor, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Professor Martin Stringer, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
I presented two workshops. The first covered strategies for enabling change in looking at the example of ‘LGBTQ’-ising’ the various courses at the University of Birmingham offered to postgraduates who teach. Using that example as a springboard, I presented various ways to that participants could influence strategy and practice in their university finishing with an action-planning session based on techniques I use in coaching. The second workshop was about the employability of students based on the mentoring scheme I run at the University of Birmingham.
