Mercer is an international firm providing a wide range of professional services. Their LGBT Staff network, Wireless, ran an event looking at how to create an LGBT inclusive workplace, focussing on lesbians. This was one the very few LGBT events I’ve been to anywhere with (a) such a focus and (b) where the majority of the audience were women, Refreshing! Presentations from the four speakers from Mercer, PWC, EY and Barclays were outstanding. The highlights for me were:
- an overview of the business case for diversity
- discussion by panel members of ‘an obligation to be out’ to help others
- discussion about coming out to clients and how to handle specifics such as small talk with clients in social situations
- feedback from clients welcoming diversity in the team that pitches to them for work.
