University of Birmingham LGBT Careers Network Mentoring Scheme – launch event – October 15th

Great to be part of the launch of the 8th year of this scheme which matches LGBT students with out LGBT people across  a range of occupations and roles . Still the only scheme of its kind at UK universities – we think!

Brilliant opening speeches with anecdotes and coming out advice from our five panellists from a range of gender and sexual orientations, representing: marketing, communications, teaching, law, engineering, sport and consultancy.

Thank you to mentors and previous mentees for also sharing their stories and views in the break-out rooms covering topics such as:

  • how coming out at work is different from coming out at university
  • how overseas students manage coming out on return to their home countries
  • managing relationships with clients, customers, patients and pupils
  • how employers are increasingly searching for LGBT employees to ensure they have the most diverse, creative and representative workforce possible

Closing date for application is 4th November, details are here.

What did I learn , that LGBT stands for Live Grow Believe Triumph – thank you Lincoln from Siemens
